The homepage of the official PM Kisan portal (pmkisan.gov.in) carries a clear notice: "eKYC is MANDATORY for PMKISAN Registered Farmers." Without it, your kist (installment) stops, even if your land and bank details are perfect. A Lok Sabha answer of 4 February 2025 lists eKYC as one of three must-haves for payment, along with land seeding and an Aadhaar-seeded bank account.

The good news is that eKYC is an Aadhaar check and there are three official ways to finish it. This page compares them, gives the steps for each, and explains the errors farmers meet most often. KisanRi Guide is an independent guide. We never do eKYC for anyone and never ask for your Aadhaar or OTP.

The three eKYC methods compared

The PM-KISAN "Note on Modes and processes of eKYC" describes these three routes.

Method 1: OTP eKYC on the PM Kisan portal

  1. Type pmkisan.gov.in in your browser yourself.
  2. Click "e-KYC", shown at the top right of the homepage according to the official eKYC note.
  3. Enter your Aadhaar number and continue.
  4. An OTP arrives on the mobile number linked with your Aadhaar. Enter it and submit.
  5. Wait for the success message on screen.

This works only when the mobile linked to your Aadhaar is active and in your hand. If that SIM is closed, skip to the face authentication or CSC method.

Stay safe. Use only official addresses ending in gov.in (pmkisan.gov.in for PM Kisan). Registration, status checks and eKYC are free on the portal; a CSC may charge a small official fee for biometric eKYC. Never pay an agent to release an installment, never share an OTP with a caller, and ignore messages with links promising a bonus or a pending payment. This guide never asks for your Aadhaar, bank details or OTP.

Method 2: Face authentication in the PM-KISAN app

The face authentication version of the PM-KISAN app was launched on 22 June 2023 by the then Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, and was developed by NIC (NIC Informatics). It needs no OTP on the Aadhaar mobile.

  1. From Google Play, install the official PM-KISAN app and the Aadhaar Face RD app.
  2. Open PM-KISAN and log in with your PM-KISAN registered mobile number.
  3. Open your beneficiary status. If eKYC shows "No", tap the eKYC option.
  4. Enter your Aadhaar number and give consent.
  5. Hold the phone at face level in good light and let the camera scan your face.

A PIB backgrounder of November 2025 says one farmer can do face authentication eKYC for up to 100 neighbours in the app, and State officials for up to 500 farmers each. So an educated son or daughter can help elders in the village, free of agents.

Method 3: Biometric eKYC at a CSC

  1. Find your nearest Common Service Centre. The official note points to the CSC locator at locator.csccloud.in, or ask at your Gram Panchayat.
  2. Carry your Aadhaar card and your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
  3. The operator scans your fingerprint for Aadhaar authentication.
  4. Pay the convenience fee. The official note says it is ₹15 for eKYC. Ask for a receipt.
  5. Keep the printout or slip until your status shows eKYC as Yes.

If anyone at a CSC or outside asks for much more than ₹15 for PM Kisan eKYC, refuse and report it at your Block office.

After eKYC: confirm that it worked

The official eKYC note says the eKYC status updates in your beneficiary status after 24 hours. Do not repeat eKYC on the same day. After a day, open the Know Your Status page with your registration number and OTP and read the eKYC line. You can also ask the Kisan-eMitra chatbot on the portal.

Common eKYC errors and what to try

  • OTP not received: the mobile linked to your Aadhaar is probably old or closed. Use face authentication or the CSC instead. A PIB backgrounder of November 2025 says India Post Payments Bank can link or update a mobile number with Aadhaar.
  • Status still No after eKYC: wait the full 24 hours before checking again.
  • Face scan keeps failing: try again in good light, or switch to biometric eKYC at a CSC.
  • Fingerprint not matching: try face authentication in the PM-KISAN app instead, which needs no fingerprint.

eKYC, Aadhaar seeding and Farmer ID are three different things

Searches like "PM Kisan KYC link Aadhaar" mix these up. eKYC proves to the scheme that you are the Aadhaar holder. Aadhaar bank seeding links your bank account to Aadhaar so DBT money can reach it. A Farmer ID from the AgriStack Farmer Registry is a separate identity linked to your land, needed for new PM Kisan registrations in the 19 states where registry work has started (PIB, 10 March 2026). Frequently asked questions

How can I do PM Kisan eKYC online?

Open pmkisan.gov.in, click "e-KYC" at the top right, enter your Aadhaar number and submit the OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile. If that mobile is not working, use face authentication in the PM-KISAN app with the Aadhaar Face RD app. Both are official online methods listed in the PM-KISAN eKYC note.

What is the PM Kisan KYC fee at a CSC?

The official PM-KISAN eKYC note says the convenience fee for biometric eKYC at a Common Service Centre is ₹15. Carry your Aadhaar card and Aadhaar-linked mobile. If an operator demands a much higher amount, do not pay it. You can do OTP or face eKYC yourself, and the note mentions no fee for those.

PM Kisan eKYC kaise kare bina OTP ke?

Without an OTP you have two official choices. Use face authentication in the PM-KISAN app, which needs the Aadhaar Face RD app and your PM-KISAN registered mobile, or go to a CSC for fingerprint eKYC at ₹15. Both work even if your Aadhaar-linked mobile number is lost or changed.

How do I know if my PM Kisan eKYC is complete?

Wait 24 hours after doing it, as the official eKYC note advises. Then open Know Your Status on pmkisan.gov.in, enter your registration number and OTP, and look at the eKYC line. Yes means it is complete. You can also see it in the PM-KISAN app or ask the Kisan-eMitra chatbot on the portal.

Is PM Kisan KYC the same as linking Aadhaar with my bank?

No. eKYC confirms your identity with Aadhaar for the scheme. Aadhaar bank seeding links your bank account with Aadhaar and enables it for DBT so money can be credited. Payment needs both, plus land seeding. Bank seeding is done at your bank branch, not through the eKYC option.

Can I do PM Kisan eKYC for my parents on my phone?

Yes. A PIB backgrounder of November 2025 says a farmer can complete face authentication eKYC for up to 100 neighbours through the PM-KISAN app. Your parent must be present for the face scan, and the Aadhaar number is entered only inside the official app. Do not hand their details to an outside agent.
