If you own farmland and have never received PM Kisan, you need to register once. After the state approves your record, every future kist comes automatically, as long as your eKYC and bank seeding stay in order. There is no need to register again each year.

Before you begin, make sure your family is not in an excluded group (see PM Kisan eligibility). Registering an ineligible family only leads to recovery notices later. KisanRi Guide is an independent guide; we do not register anyone. Use only the official PM Kisan portal (pmkisan.gov.in), a CSC, or your state agriculture or revenue office.

First Question: Does Your State Need a Farmer ID?

The biggest change in PM Kisan registration since 2025 is the Farmer ID from the AgriStack Farmer Registry. It is required only for new registrations, and only in some states. The rule has grown in stages:

Date What was said Source
1 Jan 2025 Farmer ID needed for new applicants in 10 states: Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh Reported by GKToday (January 2025)
5 Aug 2025 Mandatory for new registrations in 14 states (states not named in the reply) Lok Sabha written reply, reported by AIR
10 Mar 2026 Mandatory only for new registrations in 19 states where farmer registry work has started; other states can register without it PIB, Lok Sabha written reply

The full list of the 19 states was not published in the March 2026 release. If you are in one of the ten states named above, assume you need a Farmer ID. If you are elsewhere, ask the block agriculture office whether your state's registry is running. The PIB release also says the grievance system lets farmers register for a Farmer ID. Learn how to get one on the Farmer ID guide, or see the state guides for Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.

Documents and Details to Keep Ready

  • Aadhaar card of the farmer, with the name exactly as in the land record if possible.
  • Mobile number linked to Aadhaar, because OTPs go to it.
  • Land details: Survey or Khata number, Dag or Khasra number, and area in hectares, as written in your land record (khatauni, 7/12 or local equivalent).
  • Land documents scanned as PDF, for upload.
  • Bank account that is Aadhaar-seeded and enabled for DBT. If it is not, fix it first using the Aadhaar bank seeding guide.
  • Farmer ID, if your state is a Farmer Registry state.

A common reason for rejection is a name mismatch between Aadhaar, bank and land record. Correct spellings before you apply, not after.

Stay safe. Use only official addresses ending in gov.in (pmkisan.gov.in for PM Kisan). Registration, status checks and eKYC are free on the portal; a CSC may charge a small official fee for biometric eKYC. Never pay an agent to release an installment, never share an OTP with a caller, and ignore messages with links promising a bonus or a pending payment. This guide never asks for your Aadhaar, bank details or OTP.

Three Ways to Register

Route Best for What to know
Self-registration on the official portal Farmers or family members with a smartphone or computer Uses New Farmer Registration in Farmers Corner; needs OTPs on the Aadhaar-linked mobile
Common Service Centre (CSC) Farmers without internet or a linked mobile The operator fills the form; check its status under the CSC route
State office at block or tehsil Farmers without a mobile, and special land cases PIB (March 2026) confirms CSCs and state offices help non-mobile farmers

Step by Step: New Farmer Registration on the Portal

The steps below follow published guides, including a 2022 NGO guide. The menu labels are reported but not officially confirmed, and the live portal may differ slightly, so read each screen carefully.

  1. Open the official PM Kisan portal (pmkisan.gov.in) and go to Farmers Corner.
  2. Click New Farmer Registration. Choose Rural Farmer Registration or Urban Farmer Registration depending on where your land is.
  3. Enter your Aadhaar number and mobile number, select your State, type the captcha and click Get OTP. Enter the OTP.
  4. A second OTP goes to your Aadhaar-linked mobile. Enter it to confirm your identity. In Farmer Registry states, the system asks for your Farmer ID.
  5. Fill in District, Sub-District, Block and Village, and your personal details.
  6. Add land details: Survey or Khata number, Dag or Khasra number, area in hectares, land transfer status and the date the land came to you.
  7. Upload the Aadhaar and land documents as PDF files and click Save.
  8. Note down the reference or registration details shown on screen, and take a screenshot.

Do not use any website other than pmkisan.gov.in for this form, and do not let anyone fill it for a "fee" over WhatsApp.

After Submitting: Registration Status Explained

Once saved, your application shows a message like "Pending for approval at State / District level". This is normal. It means the state has to verify your land record and details. Guides describe a Status of Self Registered Farmer / Through CSC option in Farmers Corner, where you search by Aadhaar to see where the application stands.

  • Pending at state or district: wait, and if it stays for many weeks, visit the block agriculture office with your land papers.
  • Approved: you get a registration number. Then complete eKYC and check payments using Know Your Status.
  • Rejected: usually a land, name or eligibility problem. Correct the record at the tehsil and apply again, or file a grievance.

The government has run special drives to clear pending applications. PIB reported that a drive from 21 September 2024 approved over 30 lakh pending self-registrations.

Finish the Job: eKYC After Approval

Approval alone does not release money. eKYC is mandatory for every registered farmer, according to the official portal notice. Do it by OTP on the portal, by face authentication in the PM-KISAN app, or by fingerprint at a CSC, where the convenience fee is ₹15. The PM Kisan eKYC guide compares the three methods. Your kist then depends on all three items being "Yes": land seeding, Aadhaar bank seeding and eKYC.

When Registration Gets Stuck

  • OTP not coming: your mobile may not be linked to Aadhaar. Update it at an Aadhaar centre or through India Post Payments Bank, which PIB says can link or update a mobile with Aadhaar.
  • "Farmer ID required" message: your state is in the Farmer Registry list. Get the Farmer ID at a camp, a CSC or the state registry portal first.
  • Land acquired after 1 February 2019: such land does not qualify unless inherited after the owner's death.
  • Waiting too long: grievances can be filed through the PM Kisan grievance module or CPGRAMS (pgportal.gov.in), and PIB says they are to be resolved on merit within two weeks. Contacts are on the PM Kisan helpline page.

Frequently asked questions

How can I do PM Kisan new registration online?

Open the official PM Kisan portal (pmkisan.gov.in), go to Farmers Corner and choose New Farmer Registration. Enter Aadhaar, mobile and state, verify the OTPs, fill in village and land details, upload Aadhaar and land documents as PDF, and save. The state then verifies your record before approval. Use only the official portal, never a look-alike site.

Is Farmer ID mandatory for PM Kisan registration?

Only for new registrations in states where farmer registry work has started. PIB said on 10 March 2026 that this applies in 19 states, without publishing the full list. Earlier, it applied from 1 January 2025 in 10 states, including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Farmers in other states can register without a Farmer ID.

How do I check PM Kisan registration status?

After registering, guides describe a Status of Self Registered Farmer / Through CSC option in Farmers Corner, where you search with your Aadhaar. It shows whether the application is pending at the state or district level, approved or rejected. Once approved, use Know Your Status with your registration number and OTP to see land seeding, bank seeding and eKYC.

How long does PM Kisan registration approval take?

There is no fixed official time limit for state approval. It depends on how quickly your state verifies the land record. If the status stays at "Pending for approval at State / District level" for many weeks, visit your block agriculture office with land papers, or file a grievance, which PIB says is to be resolved on merit within two weeks.

Can I register for PM Kisan at a CSC?

Yes. A Common Service Centre operator can fill the New Farmer Registration form for you, which helps if you have no internet or your mobile is not linked to Aadhaar. Carry Aadhaar, land papers and bank details. Keep the acknowledgement. Use the OTP only at the counter while your own form is being filled, and never share it on a phone call or message.

Will I get old installments after PM Kisan registration?

The official sources we follow do not promise back payments for periods before your registration. What is officially stated is different: farmers who were already registered but stopped for unmet conditions, such as eKYC or seeding, receive due installments once they comply. For your own case, ask the state agriculture office after approval.
