The Farmer ID (kisan ID) is part of AgriStack, the digital system being built under the Digital Agriculture Mission. Some people and websites call the card "Kisan Pehchan Patra". We could not confirm that as an official name, so on this page we use "Farmer ID", the term used by PIB and the Lok Sabha.
This guide explains what the ID is, how to get it, how to check status, and why it now matters for PM Kisan registration. KisanRi Guide is independent; we do not register anyone and never ask for your Aadhaar.
What is a Farmer ID?
The Lok Sabha was told on 1 April 2025 that the Digital Agriculture Mission was approved in September 2024 with an outlay of ₹2,817 crore. It builds AgriStack, which has three registries, all created and kept by the States/UTs:
- Farmers Registry: one Farmer ID per farmer;
- Geo-referenced Village Maps;
- Crop Sown Registry.
PIB (24 March 2026) explains that a Farmer ID is created by matching the farmer with digitised land records. The registry covers landholding farmers, including women, livestock and fisheries farmers. Krishi Code reported in August 2026 that the data is held state-wise, is consent-based, and follows the DPDP Act 2023.
Farmer ID and PM Kisan: the rule step by step
| Date | Rule for new PM Kisan registrations | Source |
|---|---|---|
| From 1 Jan 2025 | Farmer ID needed in 10 states: Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh | GKToday (January 2025) |
| 5 Aug 2025 | Farmer ID mandatory in 14 states | Lok Sabha reply, reported by All India Radio |
| 10 Mar 2026 (latest) | Mandatory only for new registrations in 19 states where farmer registry work has started; other states can register without it | PIB, Lok Sabha written reply |
The full list of the 19 states was not given in the March 2026 release. All India Radio (6 February 2026) named states generating Farmer IDs, including Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Odisha and Telangana.
For farmers already getting PM Kisan, we found no official order making Farmer ID compulsory to keep receiving the kist. Some news reports list a missing Farmer ID as a reason for delay, so getting one is wise. The PIB release also says the grievance system lets farmers register for a Farmer ID and fixes land or name mismatches.

How to get your Farmer ID
There are three routes. Village camps are officially funded: the Lok Sabha was told states get ₹15,000 per field camp, and field staff get ₹10 per Farmer ID from PM Kisan admin funds. Self-registration on the state Farmer Registry portal is the second route. Help at a CSC is the third route (reported by guides).
- Keep ready your Aadhaar card, the mobile number linked to Aadhaar (for OTP) and your land record details. Guides mention Khatauni or Khasra in UP and 7/12 in Maharashtra.
- Go to the camp in your Gram Panchayat, or open your state's Farmer Registry portal. Verified examples: upfr.agristack.gov.in (Uttar Pradesh) and mhfr.agristack.gov.in (Maharashtra).
- Verify Aadhaar with the OTP. Guides report that your name and basic details then fill in from Aadhaar.
- Add each land parcel you own. The system matches it with the state's digitised land records.
- Submit and write down the enrolment number you get.
- Wait for verification by the state. After approval, the Farmer ID is issued.
Never pay an agent for a Farmer ID, never share an OTP with a caller, and use only official .gov.in addresses. State guides: Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Farmer ID status check and card download
Guides report that the UP and Maharashtra portals have a "Check Enrolment Status" page where you enter your enrolment details, and that the Farmer ID can be downloaded from the farmer login after approval. We could not confirm these screens ourselves, so follow the live portal. If your land and Aadhaar name do not match, the record may be held for correction; visit the registry camp or your agriculture office with your land papers.

What the Farmer ID is used for
PIB (24 March 2026) lists these uses:
- PM Kisan registration;
- crop insurance (PMFBY);
- MSP procurement: Chhattisgarh uses it for paddy procurement of 32 lakh+ farmers;
- input distribution and disaster relief;
- credit delivery, such as the Kisan Credit Card.
We found no source saying a Farmer ID replaces land documents for KCC across India. Karnataka farmers also have the older state FRUITS FID, explained on our FRUITS FID page.
Frequently asked questions
What is a farmer ID card?
A Farmer ID is a digital identity for a farmer in the AgriStack Farmer Registry. The state creates it by matching you with digitised land records. It is used for PM Kisan registration, crop insurance, MSP procurement, input supply, disaster relief and credit. Some call it Kisan Pehchan Patra, but that is not a confirmed official name.
Is a farmer ID mandatory for PM Kisan?
For new PM Kisan registrations, yes, in 19 states where farmer registry work has started (PIB, 10 March 2026). In other states you can register without it. For farmers already receiving the kist, we found no official order making it compulsory, though news reports list a missing Farmer ID as one reason for delays.
How can I get a kisan ID?
Go to the Farmer Registry camp in your Gram Panchayat, register yourself on your state's Farmer Registry portal, or take help at a CSC. Keep Aadhaar, the Aadhaar-linked mobile for OTP and your land record details ready. The state verifies your land before the Farmer ID is issued.
How do I download my farmer ID card?
Guides report that after approval the Farmer ID can be downloaded from the farmer login on your state's Farmer Registry portal, for example upfr.agristack.gov.in in Uttar Pradesh. We could not confirm the exact download screen ourselves, so follow the live portal and never use a site that is not a .gov.in address.
How many farmer IDs have been made so far?
PIB reported more than 9.20 crore Farmer IDs as on 19 March 2026, with Uttar Pradesh highest at 1,99,75,651. Krishi Code reported a Rajya Sabha reply saying the count crossed 10.31 crore by 3 August 2026. The target is 11 crore Farmer IDs by 2026-27.
Is AgriStack the same as Farmer ID?
Not exactly. AgriStack is the whole digital system under the Digital Agriculture Mission. It has three registries: the Farmers Registry, geo-referenced village maps and the crop sown registry. The Farmer ID is the identity number you get in the Farmers Registry part.
